Aslan, lion

Aslan

Aslan and two lionesses came from the Catskill Game Farm in New York. With the closure of their animal park, the game farm auctioned off 950 animals and made east coast and national headlines.

Many worried that some of the animals would wind up in the hands of unscrupulous dealers, or that animals, such as deer or goats, would go to people who run 'canned shoot' operations where hunters pay to shoot fenced-in animals. It is described as one of the largest animal rescues of its type. Wildlife Watch intervened on behalf of the three lions to ensure a safer fate through placement at TWS.

Aslan arrived with several scars on his face and hind quarters – the haunting reminder of confinement. He has been very mellow since his arrival and we are watching him closely to ensure that he doesn’t have any health issues. As time progresses, we hope it will heal all his physical and emotional wounds.

Lions Love Their New Habitat

The lions are finally home in their new free-roaming habitat. They were a little hesitant to walk through the 360 foot chute at first, but Shanti Deva lead the way. Asha and Aslan weren't far behind.

They patrolled their new habitat right away to claim their territory. But Aslan got a little distracted when he saw Lilly and instantly formed a new crush. Asha and Shanti Deva would have nothing of it and put Aslan in his place.

They are all content now and lounge under their Gazebo perch or in their concrete cave. Asha takes nightly naps on their fire hose hammocks and all the pride has learned to use their indoor cat rooms.

The big move is finally complete and it was a success thanks to all of our donors, volunteers, staff and interns. You all provided a happy ending for Aslan's pride.
